Andrea L. Colby
Andrea L. Colby is the author of A Woman of Extraordinary Skill, a legal mystery set inside the high-stakes world of a New York law firm. Inspired by her own experiences navigating this high-pressure, male-dominated profession, the novel explores ambition, resilience, integrity, and the challenges women and others who don’t exactly conform to traditional notions of who can succeed in the legal world face when fighting to be heard.
Andrea began her professional studies in environmental engineering before earning her law degree and entering the demanding field of patent law in New York City. Over more than three decades, her career evolved from private practice to corporate leadership, including work at Johnson & Johnson, where she gained firsthand insight into the complex dynamics of power, decision-making, and organizational life.
Along the way, Andrea expanded her focus beyond the law, earning a graduate degree in Organizational Management and completing professional coach training. As a legal educator, leadership professional, and coach, she has spent years helping people navigate change, strengthen communication, and lead with confidence and integrity.
The seeds of A Woman of Extraordinary Skill were planted during Andrea's years in the legal profession, but the manuscript sat unfinished for many years while she built her career, raised a family, and served her community. During the pandemic, she rediscovered the story and, encouraged by a local writers' group, returned to it with fresh perspective. What emerged was a gripping legal mystery that reflects not only the realities of professional life but also the enduring strength of those determined to claim their place within it.
Today, Andrea lives in New Jersey, where through both her fiction and her professional work, she remains committed to helping people find their voice, trust their judgment, and stand confidently in their own extraordinary skill.
